Im seriosly thinking of getting a tegu in the near future maybe summer of 07( I like to plan way ahead ) and would like you folks imput on wich type of tegu culumbian or argentinian I own a bearded dragon and have owned a sav monitor in the past wich I enjoyed very much. I like bigger size lizards I sort of adopted the dragon because I didnt want to see him get mistreated and I have now grown very attached. But I still want something else and thinking of a tegu. Also while looking on the net I have seen alot of people selling tegus with missing limbs and tails is this a common occurence or just neglegent care. I like to handle my herps and dont want to make a mistake and cause one harm. Any info would be helpful

you are much better off with an argentinian as your first tegu. they have better temperaments than colombian especially if you want to hold it. the argentines eat a bigger variety of food also. dont feed it an all rodent diet. try going to agamainternational.com and read about the argentines...it will give you a better idea of how they are. yeah sometimes people sell animals with missing/regenerated tails or some scratches but it doesnt always mean they are unhealthy. to be safe just start off with a baby so you form a "bond" with it. tegus are hardy lizards just read as much as possible from diff. places and ask questions if you havent already found another message posted with the answer. i hope this helps.

Thx for your input, and also for the links. All the info I can get will be very helpful. I see you have a painted turtle, I have an eastern painted wich I think is a female she still only about 2 inches long and a greedy little thing! her name is rocky.
