Who's this adopted little fellow?

GillesD Aug 14, 2006 08:56 AM

Hi there,

just adopted this lizard from my girlfriend's uncle who found in on the runway at the Brussels Airport. Must have been hidden in some container or escaped while being illegally brought into the country...

It's about 15cm (6 inches) head to tail, is mostly brownish with some light brown and grey patterns on the back, but the head is light brown and quite flashy green (doesn't render too well on these pictures).

Does anybody have an idea what kind of lizard this is, so I can arrange for proper lodging and food?
If so, any idea on how I can determine age?
And whether the green patterns on the head will grow to cover the whole body (would be sweet)?

Thanks,

Gilles

Apparently, link to images on photoblog.com doesn't work. Here are the pictures again:

That appears to be a young red headed agama. It will get more greenish blue coloration as an adult and possibly if a male a red head. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info ReptileKingdom. Never expected it to be such an "exotic" type of lizard (am from Brussels, Belgium, no lizards in the wild up here). And seeing pics of adult males only makes me drool.

If you know anybody on this forum who keeps Red Headed Agamas and could share his/her experience, that would be terrific.

Gilles
