Okay, I know "ophio" snake, "phagus", eater...but for YEARS I've wondered what "hannah" means...

Thanks for any help...

A quote from the EMBL Reptile Database which in this particular case had a note on this:

"Etymology: "Ophiophagus" is derived from Greek, meaning "snake-eating" and hannah is derived from the name of tree-dwelling nymphs in Greek mythology (for the arboreal lifestyle)."

If I had to guess, I would have guessed that Hannah was someone's surname.
