Tiny guy found in Key West

ibrakeforfrogs Aug 18, 2006 11:34 AM

I was making my morning omelette and found a tiny (about one inch long from tip to tail)lizard on my countertop. He's got a dull yellow-ish body, orange tail, and perfect horizontal stripes running the full length of his body. As I said, I live in Key West and see lots of lizards, but none like this. Any ideas on what he is??

Sounds like a hatchling Ashy Gecko Sphaerodactylus elegans elegans, but the stripes would be vertical instead of horizontal.

I believe Mike is correct. The markings on the juvie Ashy are dark crossbands. If that describes the "stripes", then that's what it is. Stripes on lizards & snakes run the length of the body..bands go across it.
