helena (trinket rat)

RandyWhittington Aug 22, 2006 02:02 AM

These are really cool little rat snakes. I've been wanting a pair of these a long time but just finally foung a pair as light as I was looking for. All I have found before have had more of a brown background than the light tan these have. They have a wild and impressive threat display much like a radiated rat snake. Later, Randy W.

They will raise almost half of their body off the ground when threat displaying. Cool cridder. Randy W.

Cool snakes, Randy. I've always thought they were interesting. You got some pretty ones. Pick them up in Daytona?

Thanks Terry. I did pick both pairs up in Daytona. Hopefully you can make it next year. Randy

Looks just like my radiated rat snake! It's only bowed up on me like that twice, but it does look cool!

I have been wanting one of these for a while as well. How is their disposition? I love the look of them but was always under the impression they are agressive and unhandleable.

I just got these and haven't had any before. E-mail me in a few months and I'll tell you. I can tell you that they are very high strung little babies.
Here is a face shredder. lol Later, Randy

I keep e. helena, and have yet to encounter one who is aggressive. If anything, they tend to be easy-going--even as babies. As babies they puff their throats when threatened--while running away from the object of their unease. I can honestly say that theirs are the only enclosures in my herp room that I stick my hand into without worrying about being bitten.

Mine like to hide, but once out are alert, inquisitive, and personable.

They make alot of fuss when young and do the throat puffing and striking etc but they soon grow out of it. My pair are as tame a snakes can get.

(old pic btw, need to update, they're much bigger now)
