lep babies update

froggieb Aug 25, 2006 06:59 PM

Just some interesting notes here in case anyone is interested. I was looking at the babies the other day and decided to see if I could sex them yet. I think I can! And, if I am right, I will be keeping the orange flame from the clutch of 5 that I hatched out and the red one from the clutch of 6 stumpies as I believe both to be females!

That said, here’s what I think I have right now:

Clutch of 5 3.2
Clutch of 6 1.4
Clutch of 4 0.4

Of course the clutch of 4 is still pretty small and I am only guessing on this one. However, if I am correct this will be a mix of 4.10 which will be a great mix for breeding! I’m pretty excited about those odds!

The sad part is that in the clutch of 4 there is one that is nice and fat and healthy looking. Has nice orange markings starting to show. However every time I pick this little girl up she rolls over in my hand, has a tremor, and looks to die! Of course I don’t believe her so I put her back in the tank and watch and sure enough her little sides get to pumping and she is breathing in no time. This morning however she laid like a little frozen Charley on the bottom with her sides barely moving. I am hoping to go home and find her back in the branches again but just don’t know what to think! She’s a scary little thing! Scared too!

Well, that’s it!

I am not sure such an animal will make a good breeder?
I have never herd of epilepsy in lizards, but this is what you are describing.

Hopefully this will stop with time.

so this is not a lepido but an epilep?

best of luck with all your babies.

Yeah, I'm sure this is not breeder material! Besides, she is starting to develop a curve, sort of a hump just before the hips too. Don't understand why one out of 4 would have a problem with metabolizing calcium if that is what it is. They are all fed the same thing and the same suppliments. All have the same heat and light available to choose from. Haven't I have heard of beardies with nutrition issues having tremors or spazms? This is the youngest clutch too. If it were something in care I would think this would have showed up in the older animals by now. Maybe a weak animal?

I am just going to watch and see what she does. If it appears that she is suffering I will end it. For now, she rests a lot of the time looking very calm as long as I don't disturb her. No tremors if left alone and a nice fat belly showing that she is eating well.

I hope she will be ok. That said I have to admit epilep is amusing (as long as she's alright). Perhaps a good name for her?
