They're hatching

FunkyRes Aug 26, 2006 01:36 AM

Just went to check on the temp of the eggs -

Very fast incubation.

They were laid on July 11 - which makes the eggs just 45 days old.

A second egg is pipping.
They are definitely aware of my presence - as I walk into the room and put my ear up to the tank, I hear nothing - until I wait. Then I can hear scratching noises. But if I make a noise, they stop.

So I decided not to photograph the egg that is currently pipping, and am going to try to leave them alone for a bit.

Current state - 6 out, 3 pipping, 1 has not yet pipped

Here's as good of a closeup as my camera will do of pipping

Thanks for looking.

Oh wow Res, you are my good luck charm. Mine weren't expected to hatch for another 2 weeks, but what a suprise tonite!. One of mine hatched today, after being laid on July 9th! Squirmy lil bahstard! lol. I wonder, do they all tend to hatch about the same time? I mean 24 hour period. I hope so, I am so excited, neat little critters!

Within about 24 hours of the first one hatching all of mine had pipped - 3 are still in the eggs right now with just their nose sticking out. I suspect they'll be out in the morning.

Here they are - all 10 of them.

No - that's not what I'm keeping them in long term, they are going into a 10 Gal today until they go to their new owners - and yes - I do have a hide for them, I just removed it for the pic.

Thanks.

One of the hatchling passed away. I'm not sure why, but I decided to move them. they are currently in a south bedroom, and maybe it got a little warm for them. So I'm setting up a fresh tank in a bedroom on the north side of house, where it tends to be several degrees cooler. I'm using a fresh tank, with new bedding, figured that was easier to do to make sure that it wasn't caused by something in the old bedding. I'm also adding moss to the tank in case it was a water issue, I've been misting their cage in addition to having a water dish (coconut fiber substrate) but I wonder if it would be easier for them to get water droplets off of moss.

Anyway, it's been 48 hours since the one died and the others seem to be fine, so maybe it was just bad genes, or maybe it choked on a cricket, I don't know.
