Male/Female Mandarin probe depths

EricIvins Aug 28, 2006 09:24 PM

This little guy was sold to me as a male, but is probing at 3, maybe 4 scales deep. Shouldn't males probe deeper, or am I just having a brain fart?

That is shallow for a male. Did you try both sides of the vent and try popping----that's the easiest for males.

Both sides probed the same depth. I've tried popping, but all I get is urates, musk, and a squirmy snake

How old is it and how long? Popping only works for a few months.
My email is jc75@verizon.net if I can help.

Probes like a Female, but pops like a male? I'm confused with this one

That should read "pops like a female". The dark red spots look like the openings to the females glands she keeps down there. If it was male there should be obvious hemipenes that completely evert. It looks and sounds to me like you got a girl. Better deal if you paid less because it was "male".

Yep, It was sold to me as a male. What is/was confusing me is that I've never had a Female evert anything that was really red like the picture shows. I've had males from different species that everted red Hemipenes, but all the Females that I've done were the clearish/white color of the cloaca

The hemipenes usually project further than what I see in the pic. and the shallow probing makes me think female also. Pretty snake either way.
