FBT sits with mouth open

alkoz Sep 04, 2006 07:29 PM

Hi,

My son Matt(11yr old) has two FBT that he's had for 3 1/2 years now. They live in a 10 gallon tank that's mostly water with floating land masses. Lately he's noticed that the oldest toad will slowly open it's mouth and sit with it's mouth open. If he goes near the toad, he will quickly shut his mouth.................I'm litterally sitting here cracking up. My son just asked me if we could figure out a way to have Mom quickly shut her mouth............

BAck to the post. Is this normal behavior for his toad or is it something to be worried about. He's a bit concerned since it's a new behavior.

thanks,
Al(Matt's Dad).

if the toad is rubbing its self with its legs, then it is probaly shedding, though this won't shouldn't last for more than a hour at the most, unless something is wrong. if the toad continues to sit as so, then make sure the air and water temps are not to high and make a partial water change. if the problem persists contact a vet.

A toad can't breath with it's mouth open for long times, defently watch that one. They do eat their skin when they shed so maby thats what he is doing

Hi,
I personally think the toad is fine. Matt is more curious than concerned. He's eating fine(the toad, not Matt), swims with the other toad, and otherwise acts normal. Here's a pic with the open mouth.

thanks,
Al
