Anybody heard from Germaine Greer?

LBenton Sep 06, 2006 09:15 AM

"Australian-born Greer likened Irwin to a lion tamer and said he had intruded on the habitats of animals and treated them with “massive insensitivity.”"

I beg to differ.... I think she may be using this tragedy to promote her own agenda. It has been my experience that when people compare apples and oranges to make a point that they are either trying to grab undue spotlight or lend some shred of credibility to their own personal crusade.

This is typical Animal Rights crap. I'm really surprised that Ingrid Newkirk and Wayne Pacelle haven't thrown a massive party(all vegan, of course)to celebrate Steve's death. You can be sure we'll be hearing one or the other sooner or later, though, vomiting forth the same rhetoric as this Greer chick.

Absolutely, ridiculous! I firmly believe these people are trying to steal the spotlight and take advantage of an unfortunate accident. These people are a disgrace, like they're just waiting for something terrible to happen so they can toot their own horn.
Comparing Steve's "jumping crocs" to whipping a lion is extremely insulting. How else do relocate a crocodile? You can't give a croc a boat ticket, expect it to climb aboard on its own accord and tell him to move down the river a few miles!
Steve never seemed to encourage people to go into nature and disturb animals. He knew what he was doing and chose the only path he knew, and that was getting up close and personal with animals to educate. Some people just don't get it.

I've never even HEARD of Germaine Greer. Talk about "massive insensitivity", sounds like she has a bad case of it herself. Some people are so ignorant.

This woman is a complete idiot, and I am glad to see that most people agree. I am 18 years old and Steve Irwin's shows along with O'Sheas big adventure were what really helped me to learn how to find and observer reptiles in the wild. I started watching these shows when I was 12 and I still watch them today(although they come on alot less these days). If this woman can't realize that Steve Irwin is the biggest wildlife conservationist in the world, and not a wildlife exploiter, she has some serious mental issues. Steve Irwin helped to build what is probably the biggest zoo in Australia. Last time i checked zoo's are dedicated to education and conservation, not false advertising. I hope she wins a darwin award for chopping off her head with a butter knife or something.
