Bedding/Substrate

tdk Sep 08, 2006 10:52 AM

What types of bedding/substrates are being used in Gials containers? I've been using Aspen bedding but fear of ingestion so I'm looking for alternative substrates that wouldn't casue impaction if ingested. Please post what you are using or your opinion(s). I've started using paper bags from the local grocery with the bottom cut out for now. Soaks up well and provides extra hide area but would like some suggestions. TK

I use a layer of News paper with layer of aspen on top. I feed outside the enclosure to avoid ingestion issues.

I use Care Fresh recycled paper product. I used the grey one and am now using the Ultra white, which looks great at first but white and waste don't mix well.I'll probably switch back to the grey.

I used to use aspen pellets (looks like brown alfalfa pellets), but found the dust levels were unacceptable. I have since switched to Sani-chips which are a fine hardwood chip bedding and have been very happy with it. The only problem with it is that it can be a little hard to track down.

You can find information on the product and the company that makes it here. I contacted them and found my nearest supplier, and have been using it ever since.

what ever happened to your "rumor" regarding horridum? Did you get it verified?

Were you questioning some other post?

yes, Gila-91 threw a brain teaser up regarding horridum regs in CA and I wanted to hear more about it. BTW I use sanichips, works well for me.
