175w? That's pretty hot.. I think. Is it a baby or adult? Either way that is prob. too hot. Try a 50 or 75. I don't use MV bulbs so im not 100% sure. Maybe someone else will post a reply. I personally use Zoomed basking spot lights. It works fine for me.

I forgot to mention. It also depends on the distance between the bulb and the basking site or animal. If it's pretty far then the heat will not be as strong. Check the air temp. as well as the basking surface. That should give you an idea if it is ok. Get a good thermometer like a Tempgun if you can.

A 175w mv bulb would be used for a room size enclosure. Its not needed for typical tegu enclosure. The 175 is meant to be put high up to reach lond distance in a typical enclosure it would be too hot and a waste of electric and uv. With a 100watt spot it has to be a min distance of 18 inches away from the animal wich would work fine in a normal enclosure also you can use a flood. Make sure to check your temps the flood doesnt get as hot as the spot on a concentrated area it disperses the heat these bulbs are also much more expensive than typical bulbs you also dont get the brightness of having a flourescent becouse the light is concentrated in one area
What size cage do you have (L x W x H)?
Bill
