musk breeding with mud?

mudmuskkev Sep 25, 2006 04:33 PM

i witnessed my razorback musk mating with my eastern mud, the razorback is 3.5 inches and the mud is 3 inches, i didnt think they were big enough to mate. Is there any chance that these two species can make eggs? tell me what you think, thanks

I am pretty sure that they could produce fertile eggs. A few years ago I would have said no way but there have been a bunch of hybrid turtles produced in China the past few years that make you wonder. Many of the hybrids are from different and seemingly unrelated genera. So producing hybrids from closely related turtles (like mud X musk turtles) isn't a stretch.
