Try shooting from a lower angle. Otherwise you are giving a standard "here's an animal on the ground" shot.
And maybe move in a little closer. The background in these shots is not interesting and should be minimized.
Otherwise the shots have OK exposure and focus. A little flash might help. Can you set the exposure compensation on your flash seperately from the film exposure? Many people set the flash output about 1 to 2 stops less than the film exposure. That way the flash just barely lights up some of the shadowy areas without overwhelming the image.
