Marine toad

junglejon Sep 26, 2006 12:23 AM

i recently purchased a marine toad (the surinam type and its big 9"snout to vent) and it ate a few days after i got it but for 2 weeks since it hasnt eaten. I recently noticed two single holes bored into each of her back feet and was wonderin if this was why it wasnt eating and what it was and how i can fix it. She lives in a custom enclosure 4'x3' and sits on topsoil and sphagum moss the temp stays between 83-88

your toad is going to die if you don't treat those sores soon
you need to keep it really dry and put some tritop or noesporin in those sores. Only give it a bowl of water to soak in but keep it really hot and dry everywhere else or your toad is going to get sicker and sicker and die. Where did you get your toad?
I am looking for a few more giants

The kind of substrate you are using (top soil and sphagnum) is very acidic and could be contributing to the sores on your toad's feet---immediately switch the substrate to Bed-a-Beast or Eco Earth (both brands are the same product: coconut fiber, available at pet stores like PetSmart) and keep posted----if you use Neosporin, do NOT use the kind with any painkiller in it, ok? Write back asap!
