This is how started an email I got from Germany, it was sent by a zoo employee that has been trying to breed capra’s for years, with no results.
The gentlemen went on and explained how they housed them in large planted displays with all the fancy and expensive lighting systems and sprinklers. He said that after reading most of my posts, he and fellow keepers came to the conclusion that I was either delusionated or very good, he thinks that I am not sharing every thing that leads to my success (this is very true, I will explain why later) he then asked me politely if I could give him information’s that he and his colleges will understand and mostly will allow them to progress. I will try to do this now but I don’t know if anyone will pick up on this or not, as I cant seem to get thru all of the bad husbandry practise that has been implanted on us by literature.

Ok hear goes!
Yes its true that I don’t say every thing on these forums, the reason is simple, most of you would not understand, and some would take me for an idiot, in the past many have slandered me for sharing my work, these are peoples that don’t know me from Adam, yet they didn’t understood and made a fool of me.

The photo shows how I set up pairs or trio for breeding, it’s a basic 6-3-3feet cage with only one 65w flood as both heat and light, nothing else! No heat matt, no ceramic nothing. The cages is closed so it keeps hydrated 50-80% I don’t really bother about it.

This cage is lined with wood chips, cheep easy to change and ordinary hard wood chips.

No plants, no foliage, no hiding simply a few easy to access branches.
Why so little? Because when hiding lizards do not bask, lizards that do not bask don’t get there metabolism going, they are in slow mode, slow mode is no good when breeding is your goal. Slow mode is terrible for the immune system.

These lizards you see, spend the day basking and running around this cage, they jump run each other and search for food all day long, they have no fear of what’s behind the next tree of leaf as they see the entire domain, they even see me coming from across the room, so no stress at all, nothing that keeps them from heating feeding drinking all they want and when they need.

They actually bask at 120-130f and love it, if I was to advertise these temps most would not believe me, many would try to discourage you from even trying this type of husbandry, they would advise you on the foggers and hides and extra-ORDINARY bulbs and then when your lizards start going down death valley, they blame the bad parasites.

Did you know that in the last 7 years I haven’t treated a single reptile in at least 600 heads and have lost only one to an ulcer, don’t go thinking that I always get the good looking animals, most I get on discount because the dealer thinks they will die.

So hear you have it, I really don’t know how to make any of my husbandry simpler.
Oh yes I do use rep-cal d3 however I do not use vitamins because as in humans vitamins supplements are a myth, we get all we need from vegetables and fruits, feeder insects get all your lizard needs from the good food you feed them.

Best regards and hope you all do better with your captives.

Ps. I get many emails every day, the most common comments I get are about me being radical in my methods, my experience is perceived as theories, my posts ridicule but interesting, sorry but I will let you peoples figure it out on your own from now on.

No need for the hate mails, I am closing my account.

What is with the hostility? If what you are doing works and you feel it is the best way, why would you take anyones critisizing you to heart?

I might not copy you exactly but have learned considerable information from you. For you to allow a few to cause this anger, what good is this for those who stood behind you and relied on your help and information?

If you are gone then good luck with your work and take care of yourself Jobi.

Of course you all understand that I am not pissed at those who participate, this regardless of opinion differences.

No I am pissed at those sending me emails that shows how narrow-minded they are.

This is not new to me in anyway, I do understand that my post are contradicting many pet shop owners, breeders, and just about all commercial industries related to herp products, not to mentions many vets.

All these fine peoples have a number of followers that for some obscure reasons, feel the need to email me and say how wrong I am and this and that.

Its my email that I am disconnecting not internet, however I do feel that when I stop posting, things go back to normal and I don’t have to sift my emails for waste material.

I got one few minute ago that says I am full of [removed] that I said I use 2,2,2 feet cages and now the 6-3-3ft cages, well I did say these are breeding cages! They are not nesting cages! They are not raising or conditioning cages!

Cages are tools that perform a needed task learn how to use them, or not.

Mr. Blain,

Certainly I hope you received my e-mail I sent last night, after spending hours on this forum reading everything you had to say for the first time. I completey disregarded any replies made to your post, and just made a B-line right to every post made by you.

I said 'if herpetology was a martial arts, I'd want you to be the master I study under.'

Your opinion on husbandry is very refined, experienced, and retained in your mind. If you are disconnecting that e-mail, then please send me a message or e-mail telling me what your new one will be: kaldorei_@hotmail.com

I don't even keep mountain dragons. I have kept Japalura splendida before, and that's as close as I've come. I came to this forum by chance and I learned some of the most important information I have in the 7 or 8 years I have been keeping reptiles. I hope you continue to post.

There will always be haters, no matter where you go. Head over to watch some videos on Youtube.com, and some of the most innocent and harmless ones get HATERS responding, cause that's the majority of people these days.

My theory on things is that sometimes you get to a point of complexity that you have to de-evolve back to how it all began, but with all the knowledge you have from going as far as you can.

For example, we've come so far with superfoods and supplements and drinks and fastfood, but what we need to start doing is applying our knowledge of what we need (acquired from global cultures) to our basic needs. Example: going to a grocery store and only buying what you think a caveman would buy; so having the stomach and taste of a caveman, but the mind and knowledge of a modern scientist etc etc.

This is how I think you are. You're very simple and very basic, but you know exactly what you're talking about.

I hope to hear from you and maybe get some of your reptiles in the future

Keep on rockin.

Hahaha sorry Brock I trashed your email along with others!

The title said ( if herpetology was a martial art…) I figured the rest was something like ( id kick your a$$ and …*&*?%&$) more like the other emails I trashed.

However I recovered your email and will respond to your questions ASAP.

Thanks for the kind words, however find an other master as this one is more of the WAX ON…WAX OFF type! (ref to karate kid 1)

Wow! I am so sorry to hear that you are dealing with this! I hope you will email me at some point as I do have so many questions, I just haven't found them all yet!

I know you have read my site and know how I feel about pet stores and the reptile industry. I use plant saucers for water dishes. I get most of my supplies from hardware shops, dime stores, garden centers and nature. I do like coir fiber but usually mix it with sphagnum peat.

I also use calcium and vit. d for my animals. I have purchased the UVB tubes but will admit that I don't pay much attention to how long I have had them.

I started my first breeding group in a 2.5 x 2.5 x 5 long' greenhouse. I hate to admit it but I had better breeding numbers in that viv than I do in my 30 x 30" by 4' tall vives. All I have gotten in the taller vivs is Stomatitis and other infections with my capra. I am beginning to think that the 1 x 3' floor space per animal is way too small for optimal health. At that rate you would have to sanitize the floor space daily.

I will admit that I have a little foliage in my vivs but it is minimal at best and certainly not enough for hiding in most of the vivs. In the armata viv there is only one vine of silk ivy and the rest is barren. They lay pretty calm as long as I don't move to pick them up. Even then 2 are pretty tame while the male and one female are hissy and snappy.

Anyway, what I am saying is that I don't buy into the fancy stuf that all the big boys try to sell us either. I am all about trying to figure out what our animals like and what makes them thrive. If it works, it works!

I hope to enchange ideas with you for a long time. I hope to see your ideas on this forum for a long time. I may not agree with all of your ideas but I won't ever condem them. I have tried many of them and am always excited to see your results.

Too many nosey and rude people out there.

Reminds me of what is going on with me right now. We are negotiating on a building for our antique shop. The soon to be landlord and ourselves are not telling anyone here anything until we have a contract. Someone must have seen our car or truck in the parking lot and now they are grilling the lady that owns the building trying to find out what's going on. Why can't people just live and let live?

Anyway, Jobi, hang in there, there are a lot of us here that want to hear your 'extreme' ideas.

I sent the pictures of my dragons for scale comparison. If they were deleted or not good enough let me know and I will try again. It's the butlercoin address.

I was reading my Agamid Lizards book last night and realized they mention scales in many of the descriptions. Especially in the sub species. If you had not pointed this out I probably wouldn't have picked up on it. You have very much to offer us. Especially someone like me that hasn't been keeping reptiles very long. I am steadily making changes to my husbandry and seeing improvements in my dragons. Thank you.

which book is that?

I think you have this one. It's Agamid Lizards by Ulrich Mathey and Norbert Schuster. I was reading descriptions of some of the other lizards and scales are mentioned quite often but not always. The japurla and hypilurus are what caught my attention.
