MurphysLaw Sep 30, 2006 02:15 PM

I cant get my new female to eat.She had a first shed 2 weeks ago.Temps and humidity are perfect. She is not disturbed and in a quite place.Ive tried all the old tricks exept the lizard scenting.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

my problem feeders have both accepted rabbit 'scented' pinkies... just f/t pinkie mice that were thawed in the same water as rabbit pinkies. Worth a shot, if you have any snakes big enough to take a rabbit pinkie, and can get your hands on one. The rabbit I got was about the same size as a rat pup.

of course, my problm feeders were corn and black rat snakes, not radiateds, but I think it could be worth a shot...

I brought mine home and it ate immediately the first time and two subsequent times - i put it in a glass 10-gallon tanki with a heat lamp on it - I set the tank on the floor with a screen top. Mine just ate 'em up. However, last night, I had two people around, my husband and a friend, and he freaked out and wouldn't eat. I had just transferred his home to a larger aquarium, so I put the mouse in there (2 of them) overnight (after he refused to eat in the 10-gallon feed tank) and he ended up eating one of the 2 pinkies. I think they are very sensitive to change AND strangers - mine defense poops every time someone besides me comes around. I hold mine every day and feed him alone, with just him and me. I have taken pictures while he's eating and nothing seems to bother him. I'll let you know the next time I feed him if last night was a fluke. I have only had mine 2 weeks and have been desperate to get information!

Oh - also - I have been told by several people that they need high humidity. Well, I stopped doing that and he has been a different snake - I gave him more space, less humidity, and he has really been active, going all over, basking, moving, etc.

Also, I just got a book on rat snakes and it says that you can brain the pinkies (apparently, poking a hole in the brain allows some scent out that they recognize/like)?

You could try peromyscus mice, they have a different smell that I've heard works well on Asian rats. Expensive and hard to find though.
