Rosy boa in water bowl!

ddr Sep 30, 2006 02:33 PM

Just recently (today) bought 1.1 Rosy boas (juveniles).
Now they both have spent abt 4 hours in the Waterbowls (keep them in 2 different "tanks"
What can be wrong?
The temps are approx 30°C (86 f) in the hot side and 25°C (77 f) in the cool side.
No mites have been found on them.
Noticed when i got them home that they booth where very thirsty.

Hope you can understand my bad english (otherwise don`t hesitate to ask)

Maybe they were just a bit dehydrated when you got them? I had one of my rosys do it very sporadically when he was young and could fit into his bowl. I live in California and humidity tends to be low and the cages are well ventilated so I give mine access to water continuously. I use small bowls, however, that my adults can't get into to soak. If the behavior continues, you might want to use smaller water bowls. If they're feeding fine and otherwise healthy I wouldn't be too worried. If you're only offering water once a week, make sure not to offer it immediately before or after feeding since big drinks during this period can lead to regurgitation.

I live in Texas and I have a lovely Wight Water Rosy Boa and she is over a year old and she has been doing that every time she comes out of blue and before she sheds. she is keped on crused wallnut shell. good luck. David of DS Reptile Rescue , Removal & Rehabilitation.

it could be because they have mites... snakes will soak themselves in an attempt to drown the little bastards mites can be very serious if you let them go on for to long you should check your snakes over very closely and possibly ask a herp vet
