Cali King Sizes

bug666 Oct 02, 2006 05:38 AM

Hi,

I've recently obtained a captive bred California King in the UK and have been reading up as much as I can find.
I keep reading about their length, that they usually grow to approx 4 ft, Mine is fairly young but is 4'8" so what kind of length can they grow to?
Had a bull snake previously and much prefer the Kings docile nature, he's well used to being handled and doesn't seem to mind that at all, quite a change after the hissing and striking of the bull!
If you could give one bit of advice on keeping kings what would it be? Is there something in particular I should keep an eye on?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know what the record is, but I know someone with one just over 5 feet measured by the tape.

I don't think I've ever seen one that big in the wild, I think the 3 to 4 feet is typical adult in the wild, I think they usually get over 4 feet in captivity when properly fed, and I don't think over 5 feet in captivity is rare.

I've never seen a 6 footer though. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

They seem to love to burrow and a hide in both ends of the cage with a good thermal gradient is a great start.
