New Baby Mud!!!

netwood Oct 02, 2006 05:52 PM

Hey guys, my new mud hatched out of its shell yesterday evening. Here are a couple of pics. A quick question: any tips on getting it to eat for the first time? I offered it some cut up earthworm today and a few softened bites of reptomin, but he/she didn't eat anything. I am thinking of trying the 'crushed/chopped' feeder guppy thing tonight or tomorrow. Any help is appreciated,

Live brine shrimp from an aquarium store works every time. Just add a few at a time and see what happens.
Frozen/thawed brine shrimp is also a good starter food for hatchling muddies.
Beautiful plastron on that one!

Thanks a lot for the reply. I will give the brine shrimp a try; I also read elsewhere that people had luck with blackworms. My local pet store now carries blackworms so I may try them also. I am patiently waiting to see if my other two eggs hatch!

I think the key to getting hatchlings that are a bit stubborn to eat is movement. Brine shrimp, black worms and the like stimulate them because they are moving. Then again, the scent of brine shrimp works wonders too.
