That thing is so cool. I saw it when you posted it before. Nobody captured it, right?

That is so beautiful!

"Out there" as far as I know. the person that photographed it wasn't aware of what it was,and sent me the picture for ID.this may be an adaptation to help them blend in better with a predominantly sandy natural enviroment?(this was taken on a small island off the coast of South Carolina.) needless to say,I was pretty surprised when I saw the pic! pretty cool I thought.

not to ruffle any feathers or burst any bubbles, but that is the plainest looking cottonmouth i have ever seen.

And I am sure that Jamie will agree with Jamie on this. That is a Cottonmouth. But, for sure not a run of the mill Cotton. Patternless, or whatever it is will take some breeding to figure it out. But it is for sure not a normal Cotton. Wish you had someone who got it.

This appears to me to be a Osage Copperhead,(compare with National Audubon Society Field guide to reptiles. pic 655 and text on page 683). The second I saw it I recognized it. I see lots of cottomouths and copperheads, never enough though.

REPTILE4U Jul 27, 2007 03:31 PM

Only problem with it being an Osage is that this was taken on the East Coast, off the South Carolina Coast. No Osage's out here. FOr sure a Cottonmouth, the head is too thick to be a copper.
