that depends on the temperature at which they are incubated. I find that at about 68-78°F varience they hatch at about 157 days. Anything over 78°F and the hatchlings are week and fail from my experience.

I don't use anything fancy, a styrofoam box at room temperature. Some just use a shoebox. Anyone I know that has used a hovabater with a fan has lost the clutch.

I have detailed my setup on my website if you'd care to take a read. URL is below my signature. Just click on the caresheet link.

Is that 157 days after they're laid?

Why is there such a big difference in hatch time? Is it just because of temp?

Absolutely. Temperatures have a direct impact on incubation time. Of course there are other factors that make the temperatures work. Jobi has had success at higher temperatures while Ingo and I have had these temps result in weak and frail hatchlings that failed to feed. We on the other hand have had better results at the slightly lower temps. So, temperature is one piece of the puzzle but it is the one, if I am not mistaken, that determines the incubation time.

Mine hatch in 65-76days at 75-85f
The babies are vigorous and strong.

Thanks.... Our "boy" Brock just laid 15 eggs the other day :S We thought he was just getting fat...

There's prolly nothing in the eggs. We've had her for about 5-6 months and she hasn't been around any other MHD's since we bought her. How long until we know for sure that theres nothing in the eggs?

Iv seen other species nest fertile eggs more then 8 months after separation, not sure but sperm retention is possible in MTD.

Sometime I use a mini mag light to candle eggs, this works very well.

The intensity and size of the mini mag is perfect, plus it doesn’t heat much.
I simply hold the light directly over the egg and see its development, blood vessels is a good indication of development.

However eggs from gravid imports are often week, especially if nesting options where poor.
If fertile you should know soon enough, sorry I cant be more specific as egg development is variable and sometimes unpredictable.

A photo would allow me to see the females overall condition but not fertility.

I agree on this. I have not seen this with most of my dragons but did have one female that definitely laid eggs long after the normal 3-5 month gestation. I believe that sperm retention is possible.

There have also been several documented cases of females laying infertile eggs under optimal care or when aquired as new imports. My take is to always treat them as fertile until they are obviously not!
