HELP! I'm worried about my gecko!

BrodyIquana27 Oct 13, 2006 10:05 PM

I recently adopted a African Fat-Tailed Gecko and I don't think it is eating. I have tried putting crickets in the cage, I have tried mealworms, wax worms, and pinky mice (dead and alive). The crickets it seems to ignore, the meal and wax worms are either are eaten by crickets or just die. The dead pinkies are eaten by crickets, and the live ones the gecko makes friends with. Please someone help me, I don't know what to do. He looks healthy but he doesn't seem to eat.

well do you have your little one at the right temperature? they need to be at 90 degrees and not on sand. try giving your gecko maybe more hiding spots or keep the room darker, it may be to bright, remember they are nocturnal. you should always give your gecko about 5 FRESH crickets or fresh food everynight. never try to refeed old crickets that were refused, the geckos know this and normally dont eat them. try leaving them in all night and then feeind b4 you go to bed. leave your gecko alone and dont hold it for a few days. maybe also you should clean your cage more often and change yur substrate to paper towels if they arnt already. fat tailed geckos are a little more picky then leopard geckos in all these ways. otherwise you may try and take a trip to the vet if you try all this stuff for a week and you still have no succes. also if the crickets hide your gecko will never find them and never be able to eat.
