Metabolic Bone Disease-pacman?? Help

Amberwamber86 Oct 14, 2006 04:22 PM

I work at a Petsmart and we received a juvenile albino pacman that appeared to have metabolic bone disease and instead of selling him I adopted him but I'm not to sure how to help besides the basic calcium dusting on the crickets and rosy reds. Just wondering what else I can do to help the little guy get the right loooking mouth; he has a major under-bite going on and always looks very upset because of it.

Amberwamber86,
Chances are, that if it is a juvinile, it hasn't developed metabolic bone diesease to such an extent that it is actually deformed. That usually takes months. The best thing to do for it is dust all of the food that you are giving it with calcium powder (as you said you were doing), and if you can, add a UVB light. Normally this light would be wasted on them as they borrow and hide and are not exposed to the light at all, but if you keep it on paper damp paper towels with the light on for 10-12 hours a day this should help. Best of luck to you.

Be sure to use dust that is free of phosphorus. Crickets are high in phosphorus and giving the frog powder that has even more phosphorus can cause metabolic bone disease or make it worse.
