Many are claiming to be dragons, komodo's for size, bearded’s, frillie's, basilicks, hydrosaurus, all of these sure have special looks!

But can they match this specie as the most dragon like lizard known?

Don’t you think acanthosaura defines how mythical dragons have been portrayed throughout time.

Iv been a fan of varanids for decades but the term dragon have never appealed to me with them, however when working with acanthosaura it seems to fit perfectly.

I love my dragons!

Who gets your vote as the official and only real Dragon!

Beardie? Or acanthosaura?

Oh, to me there are several... of course B. plumifrons are among my favourites. I still consider the multiple crests and the hypnotizing eye quite dragon like...but maybe they are more close to mini Dinosaurs than to mythycal dragons. Anyhow, to the fish in my largest rainforest tanks they must appear like flying dragons if they jump down from a branch 4 ft above water and still manage to catch a fish with this jump.
Most dragon like appearance? Well, the closest to that I see in the bizarre Harpesaurus species. But also to my mind come frilled dragons, Hypsilurus boydii, Hypsilurus modestus, Phrynocephalus mystaceus, Moloch horridus and Ceratophora species. Of course Gonocephalus (esp. G. klossii) and Acanthosaura are on the list as well. But I can´t decide, which of the list ist the most dragonlike

I agree basilick looks more dinosaur then dragon, I remember the old dinosaur movies when they used basilick and tegus and made them look gargantuan and terrifying.

All the species you mentioned have unique looks, but most peoples have never seen any.

Acanthosaura have it all, horns, spikes and a homogenous streamline body,

Funny when I started my dragon collection acanthosaura was the least appealing species to me, I was after all the gonos and hypsilurus, however working with them I discovered that personality ease of handling and care was most important.

not kidding if you go back to keeping this type of lizards, these capra like are the real deal.

I vote for the acanthosaura. I purchased my first 2 because of their dragon like looks. All we need to do is morph some wings on them.

I will agree that agamids in general have the vote but when I saw my #1 female leaning her head over the water pan drinking the water mist as it ran down the plate of her head she looked most dragon like. Just like the drawings of the Celtic dragons you see in the books! Very elegant and foreboding!

If you could add wings and blow them up to the old film size they would look quite like dragons of old!

Seems like theirs only a handful of acanthosaura keepers on this forum, I would like to know how many keepers are visiting this board?

You don’t have to say anything just post a simple I do! Then we will know we are not alone.
Thanks!
