Cage for my armata

EMWhite Oct 23, 2006 11:18 PM

All,
I just wanted to share my new cage for my juvinile A. armata. I'm new to posting photos, so for now it's only this one. I'll try to post more if I can get the hang of it. I think it is also posted in the main gallery under "Lizards". I hope you all like it, I'm open to comments/criticisms. Thanks a bunch.

Regards, Evan

Hello again,
I'm so excited, I figured it out! I hope you all don't mind me posting pictures, I think it's fun! This is the cage for my pair of A. capras, the female is now gravid! I'll try to post pics of the animals themselves in a day or two! Hope you all enjoy, again I'm completly open to comments and or criticism.

I think those cages are simply perfect for dragons, they are beautiful and functional, the size is excellent for a good pair (meaning one that gets along) or a single lizard.

I am not crazy about open top cages, so id change this, however sins they are not in my budget, I have to admire yours.

Those I make have similar size but cost me $15ea, the size works perfectly for these dragons, easy to control and maintain, this makes all the difference in the world and is shown by the number of clutches your lizards produces.

I know you asked me about my cages, at this time I am redoing my entire set-up, most of my dragons are in 45gal drums, so I have nothing to show for yet.

My reptile room is a mess sins I dismantled all my varanids cages, I am going to miss my walk inn exhibits, to bad they don’t work good with these dragons. I have ideas about my new set-up but nothing sure at this time. When I am finished I will post photos of my set-up.

I was going to get a Terrarium just like yours. But I decided they would prefer to at least get twice their bobdy length off the ground (the Viv is 24" tall and the dragons are about 13" head to tail).

Other than the tiny size I like it...

Ryan2691,
The longest lizard housed in these tanks is about 8-9 inches long, so for now they are working. That is something I have wondered about, what I will do with them when they get bigger! They are now all less than half their adult size, so we'll see

Honestly if I could id have a room full of these cages for my dragons, they are perfect.

Why I say this?
First habitat control
Next stress control
Then food control
Space management, having extra cages allows to separate animals when its needed.

This is the only way to maximise production, only healthy lizards reproduce consistently.
I am being 100% honest with you here, the larger you go the less successful your lizards will be, theirs to many variables to control.

Personally I have nothing to gain from posting about this, my animals nest like clockwork and grow like weeds, however seeing you succeed would be most welcomed.

jobi,
I have found them to work very well for me. As I have had my current dragons for less than a year (about ten months for the one I've had the longest), I haven't yet been able to establish a regular breeding cycle. The biggest plus to these tanks is their open fornt feature. I love that I dont have to move lights to get into the tanks. Very nice. The only real downside aside from them beign very heavy, is the styrafoam backdrop. My older one has been worn away by the lizards. I have also found that crickets tend to eat the foam back drop part, I was actually cleaning one of the tanks and found a six inch section where they had almost eaten through to the front of the foam. Weird, as they always have food in the cage, I actualy stopped offering them crickets because of this. I'm glad that you like the tanks, I'm going to try and get some pictures of my actual animals out here soon!
