Quarantine enclosure

Vboehmei Oct 26, 2006 09:01 PM

Hello all,

I'm fairly new to arboreal agamids. Here are a few photos of my acanthasaura currently in quarantine. I keep it very simple. I use 100 watt basking bulbs which give a gradient between 75-82 F. I mist twice a day to ensure proper hydration. They are currently eating crickets, roaches, silkworms and tomato hornworms. Enjoy!

I like it simple!

I use barrels and trash cans a lot, they keep the good stuff inn.
However I cut a window and glue a plexi for the lizard to have a view, I think they are curious about there surroundings.

In my 45 gal drums a single 25w bulb is enough, when females are gravid I lower the bulb near the ground until they nest, then I bring it back up again, it doesn’t get simpler then this.

I hope you will enjoy these lizards as much as your tree monitors, I find them much more fun and interesting.

Did you find a female boehmei yet?

Yes I picked up a male and a female while I was in Daytona.

I really like the acanthasaura a lot.I'm not clear on what species I have though, I have an idea but some people keep telling me other things. I'm considering buying a female Gonocephalus from a friend as well. As of the moment my biggest interests are arboreal agamids, uroplatus and varanids.

well this first photo is a pair of coronata and the last in capra? or similar ssp.

gonocephalus chameleontinus?

I love these, get some if you can, babies are awsome! but so are adult males in breeding condition.

Well I would prefer to get a male simply because I'm not interested in breeding at the moment and I absolutely love the coloration. However, I'm probably going to get a small female if anything.

What type of temp range do Gonos prefer, because I have a friend who cares for them, however, thus far he has not had much success with them.

Keep them as you keep your tree monitors, mine are treated identical and responding in every way the same. NTL 75f DTH 85-90f with 130f basking
Cage well hydrated but dry, leaf litter or sphagnum moss, preferably multi water bowls, no hiding, this doesn’t help shy lizards.

Jobi,

I have one shy lizard. He is the newest on e I've got. He likes to be left alone; contrary to my other MHDs. I found him hiding yesterday, In a plant on the side wall of my cage. He was completely inside of it, and since he is green I spent forever looking for him. Besides that, my dragons can't really hide in the plants I provide. However, they love to climb on them and jump from one to the other. When they sleep, they like to be semi-concealed within vegetation. Other than that, the plants make it look more of a naturalistic enviroment. I see now other downfall.

I just wanted to make that comment on plants.
