Flordia Softshell Questions

germfreesonyman Oct 28, 2006 05:56 AM

I just got a Flordia softshell 2 weeks ago. I keep the water at 78-79 degrees. I provide the uvb light for it to bask i have a basking area so i can do that. Its eats very well and is swims alot but is very shy. My question are i never see it on the basking ledge. I almost sure it doenes't go on it. when it's resting it climbs in a vine deceration and is there for the night. But it stays in the water. The water is clear as could be.Also how to tell if its male or female.thank you...

I have had my softshell for over 7 years now...they are very shy except when you feed them...I had to coax mine on the basking spot by putting food up there at different time...eventually he went up there and loves it....it really keeps them from getting sick....also, as I have been told, you probably have a male since females are rare and getting very large...supposedly over 20 lbs? also, you can tell by the tale....
