New Mexico Lizard Needs ID

StephenC Nov 05, 2006 08:04 AM

I enjoyed watching this lizard, which was very good about posing for the camera. I would love to find out what kind of lizard this is.

Location: Aguirre Spring, Near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Date: May 7, 2006. Arid mountainous terrain. The lizard was basking on a boulder in the morning. Size was fairly small as lizards go.

Thanks in advance for any ID help!

Looks like a male tree lizard, Urosaurus ornatus. Male, because he has blue patches under his throat. They are a very common lizard around there.
