Hi all,

I'm hoping that you can give me some input about my redfoot's eye. Padmé is almost two years old and the other day my husband noticed that her right eye is not really swollen, but doesn't open fully. There is no discharge from her eye or from any other area (her nares, etc.). Her left eye is fine, as you can see from the pictures. (yes, she is shedding a bit right now)

The humidity in her habitat is at about 80%. I haven't noticed any change in her habits, including eating...she weighs about 415 grams.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Stephanie

i would just try soaking her a few time a week, help with the shedding and if there is something in the eye it will most likely get flushed out, you can also try like a zoomed turtle eye drops, they seem to work well for swollen or irritated eyes

She could have a chill starting. This is the time of year when inside and outside the home temperatures are undergoing wide variation and small animals are vulnerable to chill. Advise increase in both temperature and humidity. Be especially alert if she goes off feed and get her to a vet. She looks like a little beauty.

Thanks to both of you for responding! Padmé's eye isn't MUCH better, but my husband (who works a lot and doesn't see her as much) swears it is starting to look a little better.

I have been using ZooMed drops in her eye and have been soaking her twice a day. I know about the flaky skin ordeal...my older redfoot went through the same thing at Pad's age.

Padme has DEFINITELY not gone off her feed. I swear that baby can eat more than I can! lol She's been very active, moving from the cool side of the habitat to the heat side and any time I let her loose, she runs for the hills.

I'm definitely keeping an eye (no pun intended) on her!

Thanks,
Steph
