filtering system

peebody Nov 13, 2006 11:20 AM

I have sand for my softshell...he loves it...but it is difficult to find a good underwater filter system...I have gone through many....sand gets into the pump and they quit....I do have a powerful under the cabinet one....Cascade 1000 plus a whisper 40 for inside the water but the whisper only lasts a short time once the sand gets to it....I have tried various fluvals and they are horrible...any suggestions? Thanks

You can get one of those sump filtration systems like they use in saltwater tanks. No sand will get in and then you just have to use one of those syphons with a gravel vaccuum in it to get the dirt that settles at the bottom.
