Update on my anorexic toad...

PhunkeyPhish Nov 27, 2006 06:23 PM

I've made some necessary changes in hopes of getting my toad to start eating again. I'm using a reptisun 5.0 uvb bulb with him now in hopes that the uv rays will increase his appetite and activity (in addition to giving him strong bones). I'm also dusting the crickets now and am hoping that the bright color against the dark substrate and the new smell might stimulate some feeding too. During the day I take all the crickets out and give him his hide log, then at night I'm putting about 6 crickets in and covering the aquarium with a thin blanket. After the first night no luck, but am hoping that he will eat some tonight. Thanks for all the help.

A caution about covering the light with a blanket. I once covered one of my aquarium lights with a towel at night because I couldn't sleep with it on. When I woke up the towel caused the water temperature to raise so much that all my fish were dead, they boiled to death. Im not sure how much that would cause your terrariums ambient temperature to raise by, but Im guessing quite a bit. If it works for you then don't worry about what I say, but I just don't want to hear that your frog got cooked And if you never had a light before, you should notice that your frog will be much more active.

I only cover the aquarium at night when the temp is off. Seems like it keeps the aquarium warm during the night and really humid. Well, I haven't noticed him being any more active yet... and he hasn't munched any crickets either

Do you have a picture of it? Is it skinny?

Isn't it funny, I have a picture of all of my pets except him! I will try to get one up soon, but no he is not skinny. In fact he looks really good. Evenly plump, wide eyes, and bright skin.

ps. I love Canada! I have only been there once, but I say I love Canada because I love their (your) governmental policies. Better environmental conditions, safer cities, great health care, and treat your junkies like human-beings (even if the US is trying to make ya'll stop). Also, I think its great that Canada uses the metric system. I'm a 4th year biology/chemistry major and the metric system is the way to go.
Also, you are right about our education. I don't remember learning anything about Canada. The US - Home of the ignorant (where else are you going to learn that an intelligent being created the earth in just 7 days? - I mean even god isn't that good!).
