These are nice shots. Well composed and lit.
I use large light diffusers or light tents occasionally for photographing herps but they have a side effect that I don't really like. They cause large diffuse reflections on shiny surfaces. These can be more distracting the bright reflections an undiffused flash can give. You can really see this in the eye of this boa and on the tail on the second shot. Shooting a dark salamander like this can destroy photos of shiny black herps like dark salamanders, as I have learned on several occasions
