? about the Calico morph

I have a 3 year old male granite burmese python that all of a sudden is starting to develope some small white blotches on his back. I'm suspecting he may be becoming a calico. How long does this take to develope? is it a long slow process or will it develope rapidly? Thanks for any input...John
