t_curtis9 Dec 20, 2006 10:51 PM

Does anyone have any advice on hibernating juvenile musks? juvenile eastern painted? water depth, temp., debris in tank, feeding? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

If they're hatchlings to a year old I feed them through the winter. If they are ~2 years or older I just put them in a small aquarium with enough water to cover their shell and put them out in our garage, (central AL). The temps do fluctuate but normally its around 60 or so. I don't think it ever gets below 45 but it will sometimes get in the high 70's. I leave them there from mid Nov to mid Feb. I clean them out every two weeks or so. It's always worked well and I've never lost any.
