is that dark one a rare color because mine is that color??? thought it was normal

SteveH Jan 07, 2007 10:10 PM

very nice hypo. do you have a pic (top view). here is Tom's albino from post below. they ought to be awesome adults.

gamera Jan 08, 2007 01:41 AM

Hi All-

I've been out of the turtle loop for a LONNNNG time and would like to know the history on this hypo and albino snappers?

Happy New Year,
Gam

ps i'm surprised I still remembered my sign on name and password.

K20CIVICSI Jan 08, 2007 11:44 AM

Well I baught the hypo about a month ago, and I got the darker hypo this week. There are some albinos and leucistics out there. Maybe breeding morph to morph we could get some really nice looking snappers.

hi ya gam, how have you been doing? still looking for that perfectly colored snapper? i think tom's turtle cost $3000.correct me if i'm wrong tom.and it is the leucistic.beautiful turtle anyway and i wish i had the money to get a male and a female like that one. i'm looking for a common leucistic hatchling but dont have the money to pay that much. steveh

gamera Jan 09, 2007 12:14 AM

Hey Steve-

Yes, I'm always on the look out for a beautiful looking ali'snap like the one on the cover of the '97 Vivarium. But I'm not as agressively looking for one as I used too. Got burnt out. Now I'll just wait till it comes to bite me in the butt (he,he,he).

Hiya Tom-

May I inquire as to whom you got your beautiful leucistic from?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Could Someone Scan the Cover of that issue as I've never seen it??
Thanks

SteveH Jan 09, 2007 12:02 PM

i think he is talking about this picture.

tortorama Jan 09, 2007 12:39 PM

Thats probably the nicest example i've ever seen.

lovemoney Jan 09, 2007 02:37 PM

thats the nicest pic ive ever seen of an ally of any morph or coloration

SteveH Jan 09, 2007 03:19 PM

no offense to anyone, but thats probably one that got exported to Japan or somewhere else. it would be nice if someone here would captive breed legally the yellow morphs (in states where they are from they are illegal to keep, breed without a permit.} you would probably get alot of the hatchlings looking like that snapper. common snappers on the other hand shouldn't be a problem.

tortorama Jan 09, 2007 03:41 PM

Very ture Steve. How many snappers do you have? You have any updated pictures of your luecistics?

SteveH Jan 09, 2007 04:06 PM

3 yearling leucistics from john richards and i'm keeping them warm through the winter. my big one(100lb ) is brumating outside. i'll try and post some updated pics soon. the new book i got says that males grow faster than females. and one of them is definitely out growing the other 2 but his color isn't as gold.

newtonious Jan 10, 2007 11:46 AM

Thanks for the pic Steve, so that is what a large Pink Skin might look like?

Gamera Jan 10, 2007 09:07 PM

Thanks for posting that pic Steve.

Back when I as a hardcore aberrant colored chelonian searcher, I either spoke or wrote (can't remember) to the photographer of that particular cover shot regarding the availablity of that turtle and unfortunately it was heading to the land of the rising sun (Japan).

There was another fella here, I think he went by the name sk8ter who posted several pics here of large lightly colored, Japanese owned, ali'snaps. I wishs those pics were still here.

As I mentioned, I would love to have that ali'snap, but John Richard's had two beautiful "prize" leucestics (on his website that was unfortunately stolen) that I wouldn't mind having (especially the bigger one).

you're welcome Gam, yes i thihk Greg, did talk of a japan website. i believe you can google search GO GO snapper or go go snappers and you'll get a website full of white snappers.

SteveH Jan 10, 2007 09:55 PM

i found the website on the 3rd page of a yahoo search of go go snapper.

PIMPTURTLE Jan 10, 2007 10:23 PM

HEY STEVE I COULDN'T FIND IT ANY HELP? THANKS

SteveH Jan 10, 2007 10:57 PM

my mistake. its yahoo search- gogo snapper. its #25 on the 3rd page of the yahoo search.

newtonious Jan 11, 2007 12:39 PM

jokermore.hp.infoseek.co.jp/

It was on first page of Google Search

JKC Jan 11, 2007 03:46 PM

Google search "wanigame". This is Japanese for the alligator snapping turtle. The Japanese are really into their snappers!

gamera Jan 11, 2007 04:09 PM

SteveH Jan 11, 2007 04:53 PM

hiya Gam, cool turtle and website and yes education is the key word. they serve a purpose in their enviroment and too many people kill them for no purpose. pics of mini crunch?

Gamera Jan 12, 2007 09:05 AM

Yup, yup. Knowledge is power.

Speaking of knowledge, did you know that new movie "Primeval" is about a huge nile croc that has been said to be responsible for all those deaths? The crocs name is Gustave and I think he has only been documented for less than 10 human fatalities. The villagers and a nearby beach resort has blame him for everyone that has gone missing.

Poor bugga, I hope this doesn't draw crosshairs to his hide after attracting all this publicity. But hoping Dr. Brady Barr would attempt again (he turned around due to the civil unrest there in Burundi) in capturing and relocating said beastie.

As for "mini-crunch", wouldn't that make him "munch?" (he,he,he) Beautiful turt you got there.

After catching up on some older posts, you mentioned that there was a very lightly colored ali'snap for $4,500. Could you tell me more about that one if you can recall?

By the way, I just ordered John Richards DVD. Looks entertaining and educational =)

Thanks,
from the giant Japanese fire breathing, flying turtle.

SteveH Jan 12, 2007 04:40 PM

all i remember was he was sold in the ks classifies in one day. i just wished i would have copied a picture of him. but 4500 is alot for something that fragile even though he was solid yellow with black eyes. about mini crunch. munch it is. he/she has a name, thanks Gam, Steve

tomraspoptsis Jan 12, 2007 07:43 PM

hey are you guys talking about an alligator snapper thats yellow with black eyes or common snappers and how long ago was that add up on kingsnake thanks tom

SteveH Jan 12, 2007 08:57 PM

it was posted as an albino ally snapper with black eyes. sept.2005. the pic showed a very yellow ast hatchling. i still have the email he sent saying the highest offer was 4500. but i wish i would have saved the picture.

gamera Jan 13, 2007 10:53 AM

I remember now. I can't remember the picture, but I kinda remember the date after you mentioned it, Steve.

It was for best "offer" I believe and I threw my hat in that ring early and just saw it get pass by really fast.

I think I asked the seller where did it end up going, locally or out of state and dang, can't remember what he said. But more than likely it went to Japan. Whether it went there or not, would be nice to have some current pics of it.

There was a time I called my self Ahab, a person obsessed to find the great white ali'snap (ha,ha,ha).

There She Blows!!

tomraspoptsis Jan 09, 2007 08:54 PM

The luecistic common snapper and the both albino common snappers all came from florida from 2 different people and I also have a new luecistic common snapper coming in a couple of weeks

SteveH Jan 09, 2007 10:17 PM

Tom, if you dont mind me asking, how much would i expect to pay for a nice leucistic common hatchling($300)? and do you know where any yellows are? i have no intentions of breeding them but like the yellow coloration.

tomraspoptsis Jan 11, 2007 08:55 PM

the only luecistics i have seen have been larger turtles the one i am getting in acouple of weeks is 2000.00 they wanted alot more the only snappers around 300.00 are the very nice hypos that have yellow or orange skin but have dark shells the picture of my luecistic has a dirty shell it well brighten up after she sheds her scutes baby albinos i know you can get for around 3500.00 but there are none available now i would not expect any until august

SteveH Jan 12, 2007 04:51 PM

wow, that leaves me out. but they're nice to look at. thanks again for the pics.

CrazyCodyKadunk Jan 09, 2007 12:58 PM

Very nice looking turtles. There is a bog that i use to live by that had many odd looking snappers. After seeing prices on some that look the same as the ones I caught make me wanna go back and see what I can get.
