I have an 8 month old baby boy named Ash. For the last three days he's parked himself under the heat lamp above the heating pad. Directly under the light it's 35 degrees. Usually he hides out in his flower pot during the day so I've never worried it's too hot. His cold side is about 25 degrees. He gets fresh water all the time and his last bowel movement was yesterday. However, I noticed blood in his stools. Could he be constipated? Or could it be something more serious. I'll see how he feeds today to be sure. He can take down two adult mice easy and has been feeding well since I got him. No other signs of illness at this time.

Thanks for your help, Apryl

P.S. Is it safe to put mineral oil on the eye? (If there are scales present on the eye)

Only thing I can think of that may cause some blood in the stools could be parasites. ALot of blood in the stools that is bright and fresh, would mean internal bleeding and an immediate need to rush him to the neart herp vet.

I do not know if it's safe to put minerial oil on your snakes eyes. However why would you want to? The only reason I can think of that you may want to do this is the snake has unshed eye caps. For the most part, these can be removed much safer by providing a moist hide or dampen a towel and let the snake crawl through it a few times. Keep an eye on the humidity for next shed and most likely teh caps will come off in the next shed on their own.

mineral oil is used if scales do not completely come off. he has two patchy spots on top of his head that don't come off, usually, but i have recently noticed a third. if there was an extra scale on his eye (there isn't, just wanting to know) or if i accidentally got some mineral oil in his eye would it be bad or hurt him is all.

and for eye caps if it's just the eye cap and you're sure it's the whole eye cap i know that some people use scotch tape VERY CAREFULLY after giving them moisture in the ways you described. i've had to give a snake a head bath and peel the entire shed skin off his head. i don't know how he managed to get every other part of his body except for his head... anyways he ate fine and is behaving normally once more.
