Breeding Guyana Red Tails with Columbian

daflipstud Sep 16, 2006 05:56 PM

Hi, can you breed Guyana Red Tails with Columbian Red Tails? I am new to BOAs, and i bought a Guyana Red-Tail Boa from the reptile expo, because the lady said it was a Columbian....just wondering if they can be bred even if they're different. THANKS

Err...cant' say for sure but I do beleive they can breed, but all the offspring would be hybrids. (or maybe not...) from what I understand, but again, I could be wrong, as I am no BOA expert either. I think they are locality phases of red tail boas, or they may be subspecies....something like corn snakes and some rat snakes... which can interbreed, producing hybrids. OR they are like Okeetee Corns and Miami cornsnakes, same snake, just different natural color/pattern phases.

I could be completely wrong here, so don't take my words as fact. Though I hate referring people to the other board, it may be best to ask this question (if you haven't already) on the boa forum at www.kingsnake.com
