Can anyone identify this snake? He was approx 6 inches long and found in Southern Ontario sunning himself on a trail that ran through and old orchard. He looked to be grey/brown in color.

Any ideas as to what kind he is?

I think it is a red belly snake, they get to about 10" in length and can be as pale as the one pictured. Also their bellies range from red to a pale yellow. Deffinitely a fiesty little guy.
