help with hibernation

lovemoney Jan 09, 2007 02:46 PM

hi i have 3 female commons 11in shell to 16in shell housed in a 700gal rubbermaid in my garage.the air temp is 44 as is the h2o.they have been in this set up for seven years.the water is moving with 2 1000gal pumps and filters.now the problem is 1 of the snappers keeps climbing out of the h2o onto a log in the middle.the water is not to deep for her.why is she doing this?the other 2 are sleeping fine.her body wieght is very good to go threw hibernation.it seems wierd to me and i want to make sure shes ok.thanks in advance

just a guess and if nothing is wrong(health wise), maybe the noise of the pumps are keeping her awake. they dont feed when its that cold so you shouldn't need the filters. just my opinion.

i agree with steveH, i think you might need to take out at least one of the filters....i have a 100gal with a few young sliders in it with 2 300gal filters....i unplugged one and they are all doing great....sometimes i just unplug them both.
