Just picked up this guy after he became boring to the previous owner. They had no clue on species or gender but knew he/she was at least 7 years old. Anyone have any clues?

That appears to be a nice male Cuora amboinensis. They are starting to go a little crazy dividing these Asian Box turtles into subspecies, and it would be nearly impossible for you to determine which subspecies you have without knowing the locality from whence it came.

oh freaking sweet!! Malaysian boxie! semi-aquatic turtle, love him forever! they are really nice turtles! I wish i had a pair. consider yourself lucky
