They are active lizards and need a lot of room to roam, forage and dig. I would say 8x4x2 is a minimum cage size. The bigger the better.

My male is about 4 feet long, and my female 3.5. I did not have either of them when they were hatchlings, so I am not familiar with hatchling diet, although I have heard they are much more carnivorous at the younger ages.

You can feed an adult essentially anything. You want the bulk of the diet to be whole prey items; they'll eat mice, chicks, quail, superworms and crickets(although it takes a TON to make an adult feel full). I also give mine a wide variety of other food. Chicken hearts and gizzards from safeway, lean ground turkey, ground buffalo, hardboiled eggs, turkey breast, etc. In a pinch when they're dancing for food and I don't have anything else, I've given them canned high quality dog food, although you want to avoid that entirely or feed only on rare occasions.

My male will actually eat salads of baby greens, but the girl wont. They will both eat bananas, strawberries, apples-basically any type of fruit.
