Do you know any rubber boa breeders on the westcoast? They are really nice looking snakes

Westcoast breeders? No I really don't know of any. I'm in Montana and don't have any neonates right now. I plan to have some this summer. Check back then.
Glad you liked the Charinas.

I have 1.2 Charina. I hope to breed them again this year, but my largest female is probably in excess of 30 years old and is starting to show her age. She still eats well, so we'll see.

Here is my younger CB female, who should be large enough to breed this year -

Just wondering at what weight do your rubbers start breeding at?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

To be honest, I don't know. The only female I have ever bred was given to me as a long-term captive WC female. When I got her she was probably 20+ years old and weighed over 200 grams. During breeding years she has actually got over 300 grams, but she is a monster Charina (28" with part of the tail missing).

I think a 150g female would probably be big enough, but I really can't be sure. You might check rubberboas dot com and see what sort of data Ryan has.

I had to go back on my records to help me on this question, as I breed my snakes on how they look to me at breeding time. I have a Honduran that loses alot of weight after dropping her eggs and I wouldn't breed her again until she looks full bodied again.
This Charina I'm talking about was w/c and had dropped three neonates soon after capture. I received her at 49 grams, in late December. I beefed her up to 125 grams by the time of burmation the following fall. Out of burmation at 123 grams, and I kept her w/ a male at all times. The male is very small,50 grams, but gets it done.
I'll run things the same way this year, but my males will see more females then just one this year.

Sorry this is so long, but hope it helps.

Oh and Chirsh female at 28" is very big, at least to me.

TerryD,
Is the dorsal coloration of the boas in your photo true to what they really are in life. From the photo, the darker one looks as if it has a hint of dark burnt-orange to it dorsal surface. Or is the darker boa simply a dark chocolate brown?

If the darker specimen does have a hint of burnt orange dorsally, is its ventral surface orange?

P.S. At the present time I am maintaining about 40 Rubber Boas most of which represent a line of investigation. Over half are subadults or juveniles. RFH
