Hi i have 5 Pipa Pipa frogs in a 55 gallon tank. They range from 4 inches to my huge 6 inch female!
I have 2 ac70 filters setup with ehiem substrate, and do lots of water changes.I have plastic vines that block the flow of water coming from the filters so theres an area that is calm. I also have a piece of wood floating ontop, in case they want to come out for awhile.
Water is 78, they click all the time at each other and are all doing really good!
Anybody have any advice on what else i can do for them and what foods, etc etc etc! Thanks in advance

Well i just got my 250 nightcrawlers from amazon stingray in michigan! Frogs were hand fed huge earthworms this morning and all of them have bulging bellys and look really happy!
Anybody know if i should chop up the worms before feeding? Anybody have any tips on the best way to care and feed the canadian nightcrawlers?
I bought worm food and have them in peat in my frigerator!

Well i have a male Pipa always jumping on my female, aggressively clasping her! I made some room in the tank for them to do there flips. Is a 55 gallon standard tank high enough? I have 5 Pipas and plan on removing female when she has the eggs on her back. I have been feeding them huge earthworms loaded with vitamins and now have an emperor 400 on there stuffed with ehiem media, the water actually pours diraectly onto vines so i think there is a good part of the tank with still water. Thinking about adding more filteration though soon?

Anybody know what to do now? The frogs keep fighting but still no eggs! Could they kill each other???? Seems like they are very aggressive. smaller male charges her extremely fast and smashes her, looks like she likes it though. I am scared the male will drown her with all his stuff? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I don't know much about the breeding other than they do have very involved courtship rituals. I hope you have a hide box for the female to get away from the male should she want to-just a flat slate rock propped up on another rock should do the trick or a piece of driftwood that she can get under. You can try fooling around with the temps in the tank if you want to get things moving along, and plenty of greenery so they feel more at home. There isn't alot of information about exactly what combination of light, temperature, and water conditions guarantee egg laying. Once the female has the eggs on her back, you might want to take the male out of the tank and house him someplace else so he does not dislodge the eggs with repeated matings.

My Pipa Pipa just bred for the second time yesterday. There is well over 100 eggs on one females bak and probably a dozen or more eggs on the floor of the tank (that need to be removed). The fisrt time (last year) the eggs sunk into the females back but never developed--I assumed the were absorbed. I'm hoping for better results this time. TK

I think your temperature is a bit cool for them. Try raising it to 78 or 80 and see if that doesn't get them eating. I would also loose the plastic plants in favor of real plants--the frog skin is pretty delicate and could get cut on the sharp egdes. If you have to use fake plants, then try the silk/fabric ones that are not as sharp. Sometimes these frogs just go off feed for a while, and don't eat for a week or more. Then they eat everything in sight. Mine seem to prefer guppies to rosy reds for some reason, and only eat worms once in a while. Make sure you have a cave or hide box for them to wedge under as that makes them feel more comfortable.
