newly morphed larvae wont eat

Casper06 Jan 24, 2007 08:42 PM

I have had these guys since they were eggs. Now they are just starting to go on the land. I have been feeding them live bloodworms and up till now there have been no problems. Now they simply ignore their food. I know that one of them is shedding. Could that be the problem? They are california newts, here we call them water dogs. They are the brown ones with orange bellies and green eyes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried small crickets? And do they have good cover to hide under? If not they may be getting stressed.

Yes, I asked my Mom to buy some small crickets today. And I'll see what I can do about the shelter. Thanks alot!

I got some really small crickets and put a few in their cage but the larvae just let them crawl all over them and then went back in the water. Am I doing something wrong? They have hiding places now and seem to be active, they just don't seem to be eating. Any more suggestions? I'm willing to try anything!

Try cutting up small earthworms. Live blackworms and bloodworms work very well also. This is what I feed my marbled salamander morphs.

Wing-less fruit flies are often great food for small morphs. Cultures are very easy to find. Your local pet store could special order all the above foods for you.
