passing the time.....

justinian2120 Feb 01, 2007 08:50 PM

was curious as to how others are passing the winter time.....let's see-o.a.t. 33 ferenheit;forecast for this evening,snow/sleet/frzng rain, accumulating a 'coating' of about an inch......'coating'???hmmm,nice....meanwhile this is two nights in a row of grubbing grilled franks(my little coleman's under a canopy) over a great read-n.a. watersnakes,a natural history(gibbons/dorcas).alright winter do your thing and get the hell out.

..last week I just had to drive all the way (through the awful sunshine)
over to my spot 2 miles away...
...to look through some promising mangrove habitat like this:

then look a little harder...

to see this normal phase mangrove salt marsh snake..
(posed here)

Then yesterday after a bitterly cold eve (47F)things have warmed back up enough to check again....
I'm on the phone with a friend who wants to drive up and find one..."Will it be warm enough?" "Think they'll be out?"
At least one is...

so I tell him to come on up. "Maybe we'll see one or two"

Today at around 1:00P or so while walking through the same areas I spot one overhead..

here's a shot from from below...

and posed in the light, this was a nice red phased mangrove salt marsh snake..

Moving on....
I catch a glimpse of something familiar...hmmm...

another nice little red one...
here he is posed on the mud and oysters...

So that's how I've been passing the time the past few weeks.
Watersnake-wise that is
Have fun!!
