How do you feel about the aquatic nature of MHDs? Particularly A. coronata. I know there scales are keeled to help repell water, and locals in Viet Nam see them basking on low limbs over streams and drop and swim off when threatened. And surely most keepers have seen them submerge themselves in the waterbowl and attempt to "swim".

Yesterday, I was giving one of them a nice gentile soak in the bathroom sink, something relatively new to me, and I saw a female coronata act very strange. Keep in mind, this all takes place in just a few inches of water. She was doing a frog kick, which sent her thrusting through the water, and she had a great stroke, just like an olympic swimmer. And she even kept a nice breathing pattern. Every 10 seconds or so, she would stop and just float, stiff as a board (Had me worried at first)and then start swimming again. It really seemed interesting. And I tried it in the Bath tub too. despite the fact the Female could just stand up with her head clearly out of the water, she continued to swim in this manner.

So, I'm wondering, do MHDs naturally like to swim(on a regular basis)

Hello Ryan:
I have a male in a thirty gallon aqua-terrarium. When he is not basking he likes to stay low and actually sit in the water usually with his back legs submerged. This week I'm going to add some colorful livebearers to the water to see if he goes after them. Hopefully I'll get a female or two in a couple weeks.
Have a Great Day!!!
