Red lump on Musk Turtle

KristinanJon Feb 10, 2007 12:54 PM

Hi there

Hope someone can help me. We have had 2 musk turtles for just over 1 week and i have just noticed that one of them has a red lump on its neck, it seems quite big. It is still eating and appears energetic but im just worried it may be serious? We did lots of reasearch before committing to the musks and the tank has everything they need dont know what to do really.

has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know what i shoud do?

Thanks

Kristina

Does it look like the other one bit him?
Is it an open wound or more like a big pimple?
A photo would sure help.
But as long as it is feeding and otherwise appears healthy, that is a good sign.

Hi

Thanks for the reply it may have been a bite. It has gone down abit today not as bad as it was lastnight. They do tend to fight over food so were trying to feed them by hand or seperatly. The lump looked like it was from inside if that makes sense, like it was swollen. I will watch her to see if anything changes but thanks for the help.

I would keep watching it.

Good luck with the lump. From now on you could put a piece of screen or one of those plastic dividers used to seperate breeding fish from offspring in the tank to feed the turtles seperately. My musk lives with a huge slider and just by instinct knows to get the heck out of the way when the giant is moving. I feed the slider in one corner and the musk in the other. Hope this helps.

Maybe it has some trouble with its skin ,keep it without the water for some days will help it to recover.

Thanks for the reply. This may sound silly but she has it generally when she eats and it goes a while after, do they store food? When i feed them both i dont give them big bits and normally feed them by hand so they bite off chunks - would it be that the food can get caught or that its being stored. Its just the lump comes and goes and she doesnt look ill and they are both still really active. Thanks Kristina
