Frillie Fangs

loconorc Feb 11, 2007 03:13 PM

Ive been considering keeping a frillie for quite awhile now. I know what morph and all that Im gonna get (Male Irian Jaya from Sundial Reptile) but I noticed something. I was flipping througha frille article and saw those big @$$ teeth! Have any of you been bitten and do you have pics? This is kinda putting me off of them (same with emerald tree boas) but I REALLY want one and theyre tame and all, put these teeth are scaring me. Do I have anything to worry about, or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

Honestly, my frillie is still young, but he would never bite. As scared as he gets sometimes, I could never see him biting. I even change around his cage and installed a fountain with him in the cage, and he didn't get aggressive. I don't really have any other frillies to compare to, but he is sooooo friendly to humans. He licks me sometimes which is very strange. He sits on my shoulder for like up to 30 minutes when I am on the computer. But like I said, he is young and he has been staying out of the cage longer and longer without freaking out. I will continue to take him out, or at least pet him as much as possible so he understands that I won't let anything hurt him and not to be scared. Well that's my story, and if all frillies are like mine... then the teeth are nothing to worry about! Take it from someone who didn't want to get a lizard, just went to check out the new pet store down the block and fell in love with a creature I knew nothing about. He was a very spare of the moment decision. I definatly recommend getting a frilly whole heartedly.

I think you mean a New Guinea from Sundial.
Sundial is the way to go, congrats on choosing a breeder with an excellent reputation and knowledge of frilleds. Sundial also has a wonderful caresheet, follow that, and you can't go wrong. As far as fangs go, I have enclosed a pic of my frilly exposing his fangs, impressive (not) coming from a lizard that is only 15 inches. Just so you know, frilled dragons by nature, are very skittish, even captive bred. They have wonderful vision and can see things that we could easily miss. You must spend time with them without stressing them. They are very nice reptiles and I bet you will feel silly once you actually have yours in your hand. They are also VERY easy with taming. I can't say they won't bite, but I have never heard of that happening. When frightened, in the wild they usually run away or frill up and try to look scary to make the predator run, lol if the frill doesn't work, they run... very, fast. As a matter of fact, frilled dragons usually don't frill when they are tame, mine only frilled up once.. at a blue sharpie. They sometimes frill out a little to regulate their temperature when they get too hot. I don't think you have ANYTHING to worry about. Not that I don't like snakes, but I would much rather have a frilled dragon than a snake any day.
Btw.. my frillys favorite place to hang out with me is inside my shirt. Good luck and post pics when you get him.

Lol, blue sharpie! XD I was probably gonna get a frilly regardless though. Before, I wasnt particular about where I got my animals. Now, the only thing Id ever buy from petco would be another cresty because they sell all of them, regardless of morph, for 50 bucks! and tailless ones are free! Anyway, from now on, Im gonna stick to good breeders. I went trough the infamuos imported savannah monitor crap... So now Im going with breeders. Im very picky now about where I get my animals. No WC animals for me! Thanks for the frillie advice! Ill put pics of him if I get one!
