Pixie feeding question?????

FireDrake Feb 15, 2007 03:08 PM

I got a nice fat little pixie a few weeks ago, and LOVE him! All I hear is these guys can eat like there's no tomorrow... and "Squishy" is eating very well, but my question is: HOW MUCH should he eat a day?? I have been feeding him two to three adult lobster or lateralis roaches a day. Should I feed him more? Less? I would think two lobsters would fill him up, he is after all a small dude. Also, how do I know if I have a regular pixie or a dwarf?

here he is:

Thanks!
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

This is what works for me. I have not had mine very long either. I do not power feed mine. I feed mine every other day. I feed mine pinkies, crickets, feeder gold fish or comets, raw chicken hearts and gizzards. Hearts and gizzards you can get real cheap at your grocery store. (I also have pacman frogs as well and they eat the same foods that my pixie eats.) My pixie is always in the his water bowl...loves to sit and submerge in it as well! I change his water every day for he defecates in his water alot. If he has not defecated in a few days than I stop the feedings until he does go. When mine was small like yours I fed mine about 8-10 crickets every other day. They grow at an incredible rate.

Here is a link I posted on another forum when I first got mine back in Oct. 2006. Hope this helps....

You might have to paste the url. Check out the growth pics!

Thanks for the info! I guess I'll feed the little guy some more. I tell you what, two years ago I was known to say I would never own a frog. Then got hooked on darts, now I love my pixie... and would love to branch out into pacmans!

Feed your pixie more than just roaches. Try some other foods that I suggested. I am new to frogs to and I thought I would never get into them. They are very cool amphibians to have. Pixies and pacmans are my favorite.

Check out this pacman pic I did. They are alot bigger now since I took the pic...You might have to copy and paste it.

oh he's already had a few different bugs, but I raise roaches, so roaches will be a staple for a bit.

I really want an albino pacman, and a fantasy one! Can you recommend a good place to find them?

Thanks

Nothing wrong with breeding roaches for food! I might even look into that. I got my green and albino at petsmart. I got my ornate and fantasy at nature coast. I really like dealing with Chris and Mary at nature coast. They have all the pacmans I just mentioned for sale right now.
Check them out....might have to copy and paste!

Mine did well on Blatta lateralis, and Blaberus Fusca roaches.
From

bigger

and bigger still growing

My first two I didnt have as good results.
I burned them out on large mice, i think, when they were young.

The good things people say about roaches are true in my experience.
